Book Review: Lies My Teacher Told Me

As we enter the winter solstice, more people are getting ready to read a good book. And by a good book, I mean a book that isn't written by someone named Snooki. I mean something like Stieg Larson's "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" or Tolkien's "The Hobbit" or something to keep a person warm as we head into the winter months.

If I can get another Greg Proops reference in here, Greg recommended a book on his podcast 'Smartest Man In The World' that I was able to find at the local library. The book is called 'Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong' and it is written by Dr. James W. Loewen.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I am not some kind of crazy conspiracy theorist or angry revisionist history hater. I just like truth, you know?

John Lennon said "I've had enough of reading things by nuerotic-pyschotic-pig headed politicians... all i want is the truth ... just give me some truth" and I think that is what this book gives the reader. A big dose of truth.

The author starts off with a great explanation of how history is being used and manipulated that helped me to get into the book from the start.

The book is then divided into interesting sections from different points of history and gives great information with references on lies, or things that were left out that make huge differences in the stories told in school.

So whether leaving cookies for Santa or lighting a menorah, get yourself ready for the entire winter with a book like 'Lies My Teacher Told Me' and be ready for a great read.
