I have been an Eclipse user for almost 5 years. Most of the time when I am using Eclipse, I am using CFEclipse.
CFEclipse is an add-on to Eclipse that turns Eclipse into a ColdFusion Integrated Development Environment (IDE). It is a wonderful way to code ColdFusion pages.
I also use PHPEclipse to code PHP pages. I haven't used that as much as I have used CFEclipse.
When Coldfusion 9 was released, Adobe also released a paid version of a product called CFBuilder. CFBuilder was built using Eclipse and is a Coldfusion IDE.
I'm sure that users of CFBuilder will attest to it being a wonderful product. However, there is something about free that keeps me using CFEclipse.
But it isn't just that CFEclipse is free. CFEclipse is good. Very good. It is the kind of development environment that truly assists a developer without getting in the way. It lets the developer be in charge of development.
Recently, I was unable to save a file over Remote System Explorer (RSE) when in CFEclipse. I searched for an answer but did not find that I was doing anything wrong.
Then I did a 'Check For Updates' in Eclipse. Sure enough, there was already an update that included an RSE SSH fix. I did the update and everything worked again.
It was then that I decided to write this post. I want to take the time to say Thank You to the developers of CFEclipse.
Developers of CFEclipse, you have done and are doing a great thing for the Coldfusion community by continuing to work on CFEclipse. You make every day I work a better day and I want you to know how much I appreciate all your efforts.
Thank you, CFEclipse!
