Just Play Piano

A song written for Joy Shumate

If you would just play piano,
Play piano just for me,
There may be something in the sound that I can cling too.
Please, just sit and play.
Make this world go away.
Give my soul a melody I can sing to.

I know you're busy.
I hardly ever see your car anyore.
But this time I saw it and I got up the nerve
to come knocking on your door.
It's been such a long time
Since each other our eyes have seen.
Please sit down on this bench
and let me tell you where I've been.

I've ridden a rough road.
I made choices, I made mistakes.
I've seen miracles and marigolds,
I've seen my heart break.
I lost my child
But she shows up at night in my tears.
She haunts me, she wants me
But I just disappeared.

Now, I ask of you...

If you would just play piano,
Play piano just for me,
There may be something in the sound that I can cling too.
Please, just sit and play.
Make this world go away.
Give my soul a melody I can sing to.

I've been remarried
I see happiness I have never known
But she's away for the summer
I'm back to being alone.
And how it scares me
When I turn and face myself
And the me I see is continually
Wishing I was somebody else.

So please...

If you would just play piano,
Play piano just for me,
There may be something in the sound that I can cling too.
Please, just sit and play.
Make this world go away.
Give my soul a melody I can sing to.
