Life Takes Visa
This 'slogan' annoys me.
It's that word in the middle that makes my face scrunch up. Life Takes Visa.
There was a time where the question asked to merchants was 'Do you take visa?' and now even McDonald's has signs on their doors saying "Yeah, we take 'em" in reference to credit cards.
So, the first level of Life Takes Visa would mean that Life, that odd entity that we are living, accepts credit cards. If we were to sometime meet up with the 'Happy' Reaper, Grim's Brother, or whatever the proper representation of Life is, said representation would be carrying a credit card swiper and happily accepting our plastic.
But that isn't all that takes might mean.
Takes may also mean requires Visa.
That changes the slogan tremendously. When takes means requires it is insinuating that we can't live our life without our Visa cards. It is letting us know that to live certain portions of our life, we have to have a visa card.
It also means, "You can't afford this on your own."
Visa has an entire website dedicated to this slogan at www.lifetakesvisa.com.
This website has what looks like little books on it that seem to represent fine food, sporting events, New York City, Christmas, and art. Clicking on a book, 'take' Christmas for example, leads you to the five subsets of 'Life Takes Visa.'
- Life Takes Fashion
- Life Takes Beauty
- Life Takes Travel
- Life Takes Experiential Dining
- Life Takes Sports
Takes is being used as requires. It seems to be saying that in life you need fashion, beauty, travel, experiential dining and sports. The key word takes could be replaced with needs.
I wish I could end this with something witty or interesting but I got nothing. While gas prices go up, and the dollar goes down, and the war goes on, Christmas approaches and we all go in to debt.
Life Takes Visa. Visa Takes Our Life.
