Show Notes

Trisha Yearwood

Another powerful weepy song, Trisha Yearwood delivers awesome vocals on a beautiful arrangement.

I spelled chordie.com wrong. I think I said choridie.com

I can't tell which format I like better, splitting it up or not.

This episode was inspired by an email from the minimalist weblog guy who gave me some feedback and inspired me to get off my duff. Thanks!

Patty Griffin

This song is so powerful to me that I don't think I could have done anything but fail it. It is to me a perfect song. My interpretation seems imperfect.

I mistakenly called this "Patty Griffin's Long Black Limousine" just before playing the song. It is 'The Long Ride Home.'

This is the one I would want a do-over on. Sounds preachy.

Roy Orbison

First time with the iLife 06 version of GarageBand. I like it. However, I chopped out a whole section of information. My bad. I was talking about how Roy Orbison's lyrics were equivalent to the Smiths as far as being bummed out. Then I read on wikipedia how his wife died in a motorcycle accident in 66, and two of his three kids died when his house burned down 2 years later. That is what I meant for bummer donuts. Sad!

Butt slaps. Yes, I indeed did stand up and do a little butt bongo because this song is totally rhythmic and I couldn't stop myself.

I mentioned the ultimate falsetto part way early. I kept thinking it was coming but it was way down the road.

I forgot to thank webfeedcentral.com for their continued support! Thanks, Tom!

I again got the chords from chordie.com. Yes, only one person said they liked the chorded part of the show, but that's all it takes when feedback is so low. Talk to me!

Red Sovine

My levels were off again. I am getting a new version of GarageBand and I hope that the export to iTunes option does a better job. Or I could just suck at levels.

Giddy-up Go is another song by Red Sovine.

Why doesn't Charleston, West Virginia, have a sign at the city limits saying 'Home of Woodrow Wilson "Red" Sovine'?

Aurora is a city in Ohio near where I grew up.

I think you are going to hate me for this one, because I have built up a shell around the song that others may not have.

Does anyone know what handle Red Sovine used?

Roll On is a song by Alabama about a 'jack-knifed rig in a snow bank in Illinois' where the driver lives! Yeah!

I think 10-10 is like a goodbye. Which is weird cause 'momma teddy bear' says 10-4 goodbye.

I really did imagine that if Teddy Bear waited a few days, he could do the same thing and have truck drivers give him rides all the time.

'We wish each and everyone a special prayer for you' is just weird. Wishing a special prayer? To who?

Ugh... Lowpoint in WTSTM. Don't hate me cuz it's stupid!

John Cougar Melencamp

I have had this written in my to do list for a long time. There wasn't much to say about it because it is simple and pure.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore - Your Love Is My Rest

I don't think I have ever commented this poorly on such a wonderful person. I called him scrawny, with straggly hair, and focused on all the superficial things that would keep people from listening. I hope it doesn't.

Links mentioned

Human League - Human

The vocals are beautiful and the concept is beautifuler and this podcast is beautifuler-er. I think I was right on tune with the falsetto "I am just a man".

Dylan - If you see her, say hello

I couldn't help but do this Dylan song because of the emotional content within it. I hope everyone understands that my wife is extremely supportive of me and my relationship with my former stepdaughter. She arranged the dinner meeting of about 5 years ago. She has always encouraged me to stay in touch with Jessica. I don't think I could love a woman more than I love my wife. We just celebrated our 10 year anniversary!

I didn't say hardly anything about the actual song. It was totally what the song sang or sings to me. This song was on Blood on the Tracks. The album Blood on the Tracks came out after Dylan had been divorced. I consider this album to be his best work for me.

Moby

When you are a nice person for 360 days out of the year, and then you have one bad day and say something unpleasant, your unpleasant words carry ten times the weight of the unpleasant words from someone who is a jerk all the time. I hate that. This song walks me through that.

If I asked you to come here because we talked about this podcast and you thought that I had you in mind, I didn't. I sent you to the show notes to read this information so you would know that I really was not thinking about you in any way when I recorded this.

Of course the other point of the song is that I have to say that anyway.

The only Moby lyric that matters to me is in my song quotes page. "Love and darkness and my sidearm."

I don't care who Moby's grandfather is. I like the music.

How did I miss the scream after the little drum break? My goodness! That is so poor. It happens about 4 times. It isn't a ragged but like an AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!

Elton John

Instead of being long winded I switched the format up and chopped up the song. I don't know which I like better because it is a lot of work chopping up the song and I was really tired.

This one really affected me because I always thought the lyrics were just cool. I believe though that there is a much deeper sense there when you consider that Jesus turned his back on Levon. From pawn poor Alvin, to Levon and all his money, to Jesus wanting to fly to Venus. So are the days of our lives.

Freda Payne

I tried to figure out how many movie soundtracks this has appeared on but couldn't get the info from anywhere. I bet it is a lot.

I decided to do this one after hearing the American Idol Hollywood portions and seeing how many people did this one. I love that this song is about 35 years old but rocking away. Rock and Roll will never die as long as people respect roots like this.

The Killers

I probably over emphasized my Smiths comparisons. They don't always sound like them.

Velvet Underground

Holy Crack! This show contains the worst mistake ever made in a podcast. I almost didn't release it but I felt like I had to just to show how DUMB I can be.

The singers name is not Maureen Dowd, who happens to be a columnist for the New York Times, but Maureen Tucker! Mo Tucker!

It is just embarassing as crack to have that there.

DEEP apologies to Mo Tucker and the whole VU fanbase!

Adam Ant

The levels were a little better on this.

My producer informed me that I may have had the totally wrong puss n' boots for the song. Apparently there is also a nursery rhyme...

I think she is right. This song is more about the nursery rhyme than the fable. Damn!

Here is the url for the sight that has the Adam Ant streams:

http://home.comcast.net/~emailsforpay/rockZ/A_B/adamant.html

Meanwhile, I realize now that I may have wasted an Adam Ant wtstm on a song that I shouldn't have done. I should have done something else. I guess not being satisfied with things is what keeps people doing more. I hope so because I am not satisfied with this one.

Johnny Cash

Dang! The levels are way off on this one. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I listen to it in GarageBand and it sounds okay, then I export it to iTunes, then I use lamebrain to convert it to mp3. Then I copy it to a CD, then I import it from the CD, then I upload it to the site, then I download it, then I put burn it again to cd, rub peanut butter on it, wash it off with a scouring pad, dry it on my mohair suit, copy it to an ftp site, go to work, download it to pc and listen to it, and it still seems fine. But then I download it through my podcast software and the levels are off. It must be that podcast software.

Seriously though, i do use lamebrain to convert it to mp3, but that is as far as it goes. If anyone has any ideas on what to do to make it better, please tell me!

Driving home from a Magic Tournament in Columbus, I played this song for the vicar. At the end he said, 'Makes you want to get home and hug your kids and your wife."

I hope people don;'t stereotype it and miss it, you know? So many goofs, if they don't hear a beat in the beginning, or a blues riff, or someone screaming about something, they don't get through the song. Buck up, Buckaroos! Stay with it!

Special thanks to John Williams of Joyful Noise for turning my Johnny Cash fantem up a notch.

Ben Folds

I think this is an incredibly touching song. To me the kid is a baby, and the Dad is overwhelmed with the whole thing. But they will both get through it. And maybe someday go and have a few beers.

It was hard to pick a song from the album. It is off of 'Rockin the suburbs' and the whole thing is just phantasmical. Have I mentioned you should go to the library and get the CD?

Beeee Geeees

Well, my producer, who says don't tell anyone anymore that I am your producer has decided not to tell anymore friends or family about my podcasting. Apparently this was the last camel on the back of the straw.

Meanwhile, I had a lot of fun doing this one. I have been doing the podcasts when no one else is home. This means I don't have to keep my voice down, and I can just toot, y'know?

Poella says that the worst part is that it really is how I can act, and it really is me. I guess that might be the best part too, eh?

I said it was a 'Dragons Tail' glass, but really it is a 'Dragon Tails' glass that was made by welch's. We have a few of them, though really we both despise the dragon tails show.

Spam Kings is a good book, Thanks, Brad.

I cannot sing as high as Barry in my falsetto voice. No matter how loud I try to go. Believe me, I have tried.

Andy Gibb is dead. He died on March 10, 1988. Oh Crack! I recorded this on the anniversary of his death. I feel kinda bad.

That is pretty freaking uncanny right there.

Barry did not say I can see a new Toronto. He said I can see a new tomorrow.

Giant Eagle is the grocery store in my area. I like it.

I think the bup bup bup bah is a synth, not a guitar.

Maurice is dead, Robin and Barry are very much alive.

Love is such a beautiful thing! Repeat and fade...
